Semaglutide Weight Loss Program

At Body Oasis, we make weight loss treatment hassle-free. Even with improvement in diet and exercise, weight loss can be difficult. In addition, several medical conditions can make it more challenging for some. Utilizing Semaglutide, our medical provider can assist patients with this adjunct treatment to diet and exercise.

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist, meaning that it mimics the action of the human incretin glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), thereby increasing insulin secretion and increasing blood sugar disposal and improving glycemic control. Semaglutide has been FDA approved for the treatment of Diabetes Mellitus Type II since 2017 and has subsequently been FDA approved for long term weight management in adults.

We’ve made our weight loss program easy to enroll and easy to maintain. We recommend an initial commitment of 3 months ($399/month for a minimum of 3 months), after that, you can cancel at any time. How Does it Work?

Step 1: Medical Questionnaire

Start by completing a medical questionnaire to capture your health needs and goals to determine eligibility in the program. A licensed medical doctor will review it with you and answer any questions you have. The link is at the bottom of this page!

Step 2: Enroll In The Program

If our licensed medical doctor determines that you are provisionally eligible for the program according to your medical questionnaire. Once you are enrolled, your patient profile will be built out on our secure, HIPAA-compliant system. You will go through our basic triage system, which includes a Styku 3D Body Scan, which will create a 3D avatar of your body and provide a multitude of health information such as BMI, percentages of subcutaneous fat, vicarial fat, muscle mass, etc. If the physician has determined it is medically appropriate, you will be prescribed Semaglutide medicine. (All visits are in office. Some will be in person with the physician, some will be a zoom video visit set up in our office)

Step 3: Your Prescription Is Shipped Direct To You!

Once prescribed by our physician, your prescription is sent to our partner compounding pharmacy. Our partner pharmacy will then expedite the shipping of your prescription and supplies direct to your doorstep!

Step 4: Your Progress is Reanalyzed

In order to monitor your weight loss progress, you will schedule monthly follow-ups to reanalyze your current status and Styku Body Scan. This process repeats itself until you’ve reached your goals, or if our physicians deem it is no longer medically appropriate. Your health and safety is our number one priority.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How long can I stay on the medication?

When utilized for managing weight, Semaglutide may be continued as long as it’s proving effective and is not producing any adverse or unwanted side effects.

2. What can make me not eligible for this treatment?

Due to data from rodents studies of GLP-1-mediated thyroid C-cell hyperplasia, the use of Semaglutide is contraindicated in people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma and in patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2.

3. How often do I take the medication?

You are going to give yourself a little injection under the skin once a week.

4. What are the possible adverse reactions?

Semaglutide is associated with GI adverse reactions, including nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, abdominal distention, eructation, flatulence, gastroenteritis, and gastroesophageal reflux disease.  It has also been associated with causing headache, fatigue, dizziness, and hypoglycemia in patients with type 2 diabetes.  Please discuss with your physician the contraindications and other warning and precautions before starting Semaglutide.

5. What will happen if I stop taking the medication?

It depends. Semaglutide helps the insulin in your body work much more effectively while you are on the medication. If you stop the medication shortly after starting it, you will see very little change. If you’ve been on Semaglutide long term and then stop taking it, the lifestyle component becomes crucial. If you’ve developed and habituated healthy lifestyle habits, you will likely succeed at keeping the weight off. This includes ensuring you eat a healthy, nutritious diet that is appropriate for your weight maintenance goals, exercising regularly, and getting enough refreshing sleep on a nightly basis.

6. How does Semaglutide work?

Semaglutide is a synthetic glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist that belongs to a class of drugs called incretin mimetics.  Incretins are a type of hormone that stimulate a decrease in blood glucose levels, such as GLP-1 that binds to and activates the GLP-1 receptor.  GLP-1 works to regulate ones appetite and caloric intake, and the GLP-1 receptor is present in several areas of your body, including areas in your brain responsible for appetite regulation. Semaglutide, as an agonist, binds to the GLP-1 receptor and works to lower blood glucose by stimulating insulin secretion and to inhibit glucagon release.

7. Do I need to follow a specific diet to lose weight while on Semaglutide?

We have found that the best diet for you is going to be one that is well-balanced, nutrient-filled, and calorically appropriate for your gradual weight loss. Which diet you choose to follow is going to depend entirely upon what diet resonates the best with you (because this is the one that you are most likely to follow consistently and consistency leads to success).

8. How long does it take for the medication to start working?

It gets to a steady-state in the body after 4-5 weeks. This is typically when patients start to appreciate steady weight loss. However, you may experience some nausea or changes in appetite and cravings immediately after starting the medication.

9. Why can’t I start off at a 2mg per week dose?

More is not always better. Your body must adjust to the medication slowly. It is very possible that there is going to be some unwanted side effects initially after you begin the medication. More concerning than common side effects such as nausea, the risk of your blood sugar dropping too low and too fast is a significant concern. If this happens you can become faint and possibly pass out and fall. Due to this concern, we are going to titrate the dose of the medication up as it pertains to each individual patient.

10. What happens if I skip a weekly dose?

The medication lasts in your system at steady-state for about a week, but it can take up to 4-5 weeks for the medication to completely leave the body. Keeping this in mind, if you accidentally skip a dose, you can take it immediately once you remember and allow it to build back up in your system. If it has been over a week since you were supposed to have taken your last dose, you may need to step down your dose in order to get your body accustomed to the medication to alleviate any side effects. You are welcome to reach out to our staff with any questions that you may have in a situation like this.

11. Does titrating this medication help mitigate side effects?

Yes. A slow titration, using the lowest effective dose, will be the best way to decrease side effects and potential for unwanted side effects.

12. I’m getting nausea, what should I do?

There are many ways to mitigate possible nausea from Semaglutide. First, eat absorptive foods such as rice or toast prior to your injection. Have a cup of ginger tea on hand, this is a powerful anti-nausea option as our ginger candies or crystallized ginger. Taking the injection before bed can also allow you to sleep through any nausea. Typically any nausea will abate within a day. We can also prescribe ondansetron to take if you are having an ongoing nausea reaction to the medication.

13. How long can I be enrolled in your program?

We require an initial commitment of 3 months. After that, your all-inclusive plan will continue at $339/month. This will continue to include the medication, supplies, and all physician fees. After the initial 3 months, you can cancel at anytime when you have achieved your weight loss goal or if you decide to stop taking the medication.
